About the Edition

The Natural Killer [NK] Cell plays a critical role in regulating the innate and adaptive immune response to pathogens, injury and stress. Although originally portrayed as primarily a lytic cell, the NK cell has emerged as a cell capable of helper function, expansion, contraction, and accelerated memory responses - features similar to other adaptive immune cells. It is a professional accelerator of immunity, mediating dendritic cell maturation and its precursors critical for the origin and development of secondary lymph node structures. NK cells also play an essential role in mammalian placenta.

Natural Killer (NK) cells are cellular components of the immune system more difficult to deceive by tumor cells and with greater cytotoxic activity. Their use in immunotherapy gains strength because they are a less toxic alternative to existing therapy, but the current research focuses on mimicking the NK attack strategy. Purchase Natural Killer Cells - 1st Edition. Print Book & E-Book. ISBNPublisher Summary. Integrated with other immune cells, natural killer (NK) cells contribute to host anti-microbial and anti- tumor immunity.

The provision of early defence mechanisms against viral infections, particularly herpes viruses, is perhaps the most important clinical effect by NK cells, but it was their cytotoxic potency against tumor cells that brought about their discovery.

This volume contains collection of Natural Killer Cell methodologies relevant for both basic and translational research. These methodologies present new developments in the natural killer (NK) cell field, such as understanding the influence of NK cells metabolism on its function, identifying complexity of NK cell subsets through mass cytometry, and determining the emergence of Format: Hardcover.

The book concludes by explaining that natural killer cells are utilized for clinical therapy of malignancies, and that they have led to positive outcomes in Natural Killer Cells book field of biology and medicine. Read more Read lessPrice: $ natural killer cell listen (NA-chuh-rul KIH-ler sel) A type of immune cell that has granules (small particles) with enzymes that can kill tumor cells or cells infected with a virus.

A natural killer cell is a type of white blood cell. Also called NK cell and NK-LGL. Natural Killer Cells Play Other Roles. Natural killer cells are not only effectors of innate immunity; Natural Killer Cells book research has also uncovered information on both activating and inhibitory NK cell receptors, which play roles in maintaining self-tolerance and sustaining NK cell activity.

NK cells also play a role in the adaptive immune response. Natural killer (NK) cells have been at the forefront of immunology for two decades.

During that time, a great amount of information about these cells has been obtained. They are important in antiinfectious and antitumoral defense and shape the adaptive immune response.

In. Natural Killer (NK) Cells are lymphocytes in the same family as T and B cells, coming from a common progenitor. However, as cells of the innate immune system, NK cells are classified as group I Innate Lymphocytes (ILCs) and respond quickly to a wide variety of pathological challenges.

NK cells are best known for killing virally infected cells, and detecting and controlling. Sharon Gwaltney-Brant, in Biomarkers in Toxicology, Natural killer cells.

Natural killer cells (NK) are non-B, non-T lymphocytes that do not require specific antigenic activation to detect and kill pathogens, making NK a component of innate immunity.

NK are important factors in destroying virus-infected cells and limiting the progression and spread of tumors. The book Natural Killer Cells is the result of a collective work that addresses in a clear and comprehensive way for readers and through as many sensuous details as possible, the most and various fundamental aspects of natural killer cells, as well as their clinical applications in cancer immunotherapy.

This book will serve as an invaluable resource and pedagogical support for Author: Mourad Aribi. This volume contains collection of Natural Killer Cell methodologies relevant for both basic and translational research.

First Edition textbook contains collection of Natural Killer Cell methodologies relevant for both basic and translational. E-BOOK DESCRIPTION. Natural Killer (NK) cells are large granular lymphocytes of the innate immune system. They are widespread throughout the body, being present in both lymphoid organs and non-lymphoid peripheral tissues.

NK cells are involved in direct innate immune reactions against viruses, bacteria, parasites and other triggers of pathology. Natural Killer (NK) cells are lymphoid cells that participate in innate immunity and in early defense against infections and tumors. NK cells express cell surface activating and inhibitory.

Natural killer cells (NK cells) are specialized white blood cells. Though they only make up a small percentage of your total white blood cells, NK cells are some of the most important. You can think of them as the elite, special forces of your immune system. It’s their job to take out stressed cells that have been infected with viruses or.

Maitake and other medicinal mushrooms enhance the activity of natural killer cells, according to Peter C.K. Cheung, author of the book "Mushrooms as Functional Foods." A study published in the February issue of the "Journal of Medicinal Food" found that maitake mushrooms increased natural killer cell activity and inhibited colon cancer in.

Natural killer (NK) cells are an essential component of the innate immune system, and they play a crucial role in immunity against malignancies. Recent advances in our understanding of NK cell biology have paved the way for new therapeutic strategies based on NK cells for the treatment of various cancers.

In this section, we will focus on NK cell immunotherapy, including the Author: Yui Harada, Koji Teraishi, Minori Ishii, Hiroshi Ban, YoshikazuYonemitsu. Infected cells are identified and destroyed by natural killer (NK) cells, lymphocytes that can kill cells infected with viruses or tumor cells (abnormal cells that uncontrollably divide and invade other tissue).

Natural killer (NK) cells are cytotoxic lymphocytes critical to the innate immune system. The role of NK cells is similar to that of cytotoxic T cells in the adaptive immune response.
